Software Engineer

iovation is in the business of making the internet a safer place. We help protect retailers, banks, insurers, gaming operators, dating sites, social networks and other businesses from credit card fraud, identity theft, account takeover and many other abuses. Our global clients leverage our device-based intelligence network that contains 4 billion devices that have touched our clients’ sites, plus 40 million fraud and abuse reports connected to some of those devices.

Position Summary

iovation is looking for a Software Engineer to help develop high throughput, highly available, horizontally scalable services that contribute to our multi-factor authentication product.  You will be joining a tightly knit team of collaborative people who love what we do and look forward coming to work every day.  You will bring the best of your experience and tools, to help us improve how we work and what we work on.  You will have freedom to determine the best way forward on any goal. We are constantly evolving our products, features, and service architecture and are always looking for new and better ways to do things. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop highly-available, horizontally scalable, RESTful services with Python to enhance our authentication system
  • Collaborate with team members to develop a general understanding of our application landscape and dive deep where needed
  • Interface with members of an agile development team in understanding requirements and expectations
  • Work with team members to plan and estimate development tasks

Skills/Requirements

  • 3+ years of Python expertise with strong experience with Python 2.7 features
  • Demonstrated experience with Pyramid, Flask or other Python Frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience writing REST, SOAP, and JSON based services
  • Demonstrated experience with NoSQL databases, especially Cassandra
  • Experience with Large scale, high volume, highly available applications
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with Continuous Integration
  • Writing Unit Tests with PyUnit and Nose
  • Ability to work effectively within own department team and cross-departmentally
  • Ability to meet inflexible project deadlines
  • Detail orientation

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other technical field or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience building web services with Python
  • Turning requirements into design, into living features
  • Troubleshooting and resolving production issues
  • Messaging-based architectures
  • Writing Unit and Functional Tests
  • A background in Security engineering or a desire to learn
  • Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Remote debugging
  • Code reviews
  • Concurrent programming

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting, listening and talking; intermittent standing and walking; intermittent bending and twisting of the upper body (in the event of traveling/working from remote locations). Close detail work requiring visual acuity.
